TechiLabs

Mac software, by the specs

The bench

DMCA and copyright

TechiLabs is a catalogue of Mac software, not a file host. Every listing links to the developer’s own site or distribution channel; we store written specifications, version histories and compatibility notes, not installer archives. That matters for the rest of this page, because takedowns here work differently from the ones you might send to a file locker.

If you believe a page on techilabs.com infringes your copyright, I ask you to send a notice to [email protected]. The copyright-relevant material on this site is almost always text or a thumbnail icon. I can remove, rewrite or replace text promptly, and I will do so when a notice is valid and specific. A valid notice gives me enough to act on without guesswork. What I need from you:

  • The exact page address (URL) where the material appears. One URL per notice is fine; a list of URLs is fine too.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you say is being used without permission — a title, a registration number, a link to the original, or a clear description.
  • Proof that you own the work or are authorised to act on the owner’s behalf. A sentence stating your relationship to the rights holder is usually enough, but I may ask for supporting documentation if the claim is unclear.
  • Your contact details: name, email address and, if you are representing an organisation, your role.
  • A statement of good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  • A signature. A physical or electronic signature from the rights holder or authorised agent.

What happens after a valid notice

When a notice checks all the boxes, I act on it. That usually means removing the specific text or image, not the entire program page. If a thumbnail icon is the issue, I replace it with a text label. If the descriptive text reproduces copyrightable wording from your product page, I rephrase it or take it down. In rare cases where the whole page is problematic, I unpublish it temporarily while I sort things out with you.

I also keep a record of resolved notices. That record helps me spot patterns and avoid repeating a mistake.

Counter-notices

If you submitted material — a comment, for instance — and it is removed after a third-party notice, you can send a counter-notice to [email protected]. Your counter-notice should identify the material, state that you believe it was removed in error, and include your contact details and a signature. I will forward it to the original complainant and, where appropriate, restore the material.

What I cannot process

Vague or bulk requests that name nothing specific. A message such as “your site infringes our software” with no URLs, no identification of the work and no authorisation details does not give me a path to action. I reply to these asking for the missing specifics. Until they arrive, the pages stay as they are.

This page sits alongside the terms of use, where you will find broader rules about commenting and accounts. If you have questions that are not answered here, write to Nadia at [email protected]. For copyright matters please use the dmca@ address so the thread stays in one place.
