TechiLabs

Mac software, by the specs

The bench

Privacy and cookies

TechiLabs runs on curiosity about how Mac software is put together, not on data collection. What follows is a plain‑English run‑through of what happens when you use the site, what doesn’t happen, and how you stay in control.

Comments and moderation

I left a comment. Why can I see it but nobody else can?

Every comment is read by a real person before it appears publicly. When you submit a comment, the site shows it to you marked “awaiting moderation” so you know it’s in the queue. Once approved, it becomes visible to everyone reading that program page.

What does the moderator see?

I see the comment text, the display name on your account, the email address tied to the account, and the program page the comment was left on. That is the full set.

Cookies

Does TechiLabs drop cookies on my browser?

If you’re browsing without an account, the site sets no cookies at all. None.

If you sign into an account, two small cookies are set: a session cookie so the site knows you’re signed in while you move between pages, and a sign-in marker cookie that lets you stay signed in across visits. Both are strictly functional. There are no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies, and no third‑party cookies.

Account and data

What is stored in my account?

Your display name, email address, a hashed (non‑reversible) copy of your password, the programs you’ve saved as favourites, any comments you’ve submitted, and any site notifications you’ve received.

How do I delete my account or a comment?

Write to [email protected] from the email address on the account, and tell me what you’d like removed. I’ll confirm once it’s done. There’s no self‑service deletion page, because I prefer a short, human loop over an automated one for a site this size.

What never happens

Do you sell data or run ads?

No. TechiLabs does not sell, rent, or trade any reader data. There are no advertising trackers of any kind—first‑party or third‑party—on any page. I don’t use an ad network, and I don’t embed pixels from marketing platforms.

What about children?

The site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone in that age group. If you’re a parent or guardian and believe a child has created an account, email me at [email protected] and I’ll sort it out.

Notifications and email

Will I get email from TechiLabs?

No marketing email, no newsletters, no product announcements. Notifications—for example, when a program you’ve favourited gets an update or when a moderator replies to your comment—live on the site only, inside your account. You’ll see a small badge when you’re signed in. That’s it.

Server logs

What do the server logs contain?

Like almost every web server, mine keeps ordinary access logs. Each entry records the IP address your connection came from, the browser and operating system your device reported, the pages requested, and the time of the request. I use these logs for security monitoring and occasional troubleshooting—spotting broken links, for example. They are not used to build reader profiles or track behaviour across sessions. Logs are rotated and old entries are not kept indefinitely.
