If you know the slow, inventory-driven tension of 4A Games' earlier Metro titles, Exodus shifts that formula above ground without discarding it. The result is a first-person shooter that asks for patience as often as it asks for aim.
Scavenge, maintain, and listen before firing
Players who like scavenging, weapon maintenance, and listening to the world before firing will find a lot here. The game follows Artyom and the Sparta order across post-apocalyptic Russia in 2036, twenty-five years after a nuclear war. Large nonlinear levels replace the older tunnel sequences, and dynamic weather plus day-night cycles change how each area reads. The story draws from Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels, so it suits anyone who wants fiction with a slower, more deliberate tone rather than constant combat.
Deliberate pace, scarce ammo, and native Mac constraints
Anyone expecting a run-and-gun shooter should look elsewhere. The pace is deliberate, resources are limited, and the interface supports fourteen languages while voice acting covers eight, so non-native speakers may notice the difference. The Mac version is a native release from April 2021 and requires macOS 10.15 on an x86 system, which narrows the hardware it runs on comfortably.
- Mac release — native port published 14 April 2021.
- macOS 10.15 or later
- Architecture: x86 (64-bit)
